Rebecca Rick MS, RDN, CD

(she/her/hers)

After growing up in the Midwest, attending undergrad and starting her first career in Texas, bouncing around the country pursuing a new career in nutrition, then attending graduate school in Utah, she ultimately landed in Salt Lake City and feels at home being able to access the mountains even before the workday begins.  Growing up, Becca was drawn to endurance activities and ran her first half-marathon at age 11 and full marathon at age 17.  Fast-forward 10+ years when she moved to Utah within months of running the Boston Marathon for the first time, and eagerly traded pavement for trails without looking back.  She spent her time hiking peaks, climbing, mountain biking and ski touring.  It wasn’t until a few years later that she began “trail running”, and it wasn’t long before she signed up for her first 100-miler.  She’s since completed 4 100-milers, finishing in first or second female for 3 of the 4 (and 4th in her first, coming within 5 minutes of both 2nd and 3rd place without any clue where she was in the ranking and getting passed in the final miles by posing for sunrise photos!).  Becca recently tried her hand again on the road, after having a solid 10-year break, and came within one minute of her goal of a sub-3 marathon.  Her proudest efforts aren’t often in a race setting, including an official “Everesting” of her favorite weekday morning peak, a solo (and handful of shared) off-the-cuff R2R2R in the Grand Canyon, and completing a local scramble route, the WURL, with her dad.

Outside of mountain adventures, she and her husband, Andrew, are proud dog parents to the best two labs on the planet, Ranger (12+) and Norman (7).  Becca also loves to frequent local breweries, coffee shops, boutiques, and farmers markets.  She enjoys being creative in the kitchen and rarely follows recipes unless she’s working on perfecting a baked good - cheesecake, cinnamon rolls, and sourdough bread are some house favorites.  She’s been to 49 states and 6 continents, hoping the best have been saved for last (Alaska and Antarctica!).

PROFESSIONAL APPROACH

Becca embraces a holistic approach to health and nutrition, much inspired by her work in population health management consulting within the employee benefits space.  Appreciating the role of nutrition within the broader scope of other factors within our control like sleep, movement, and prioritizing mental health have helped her and her clients see nutrition for the supportive role it plays in both everyday living and athletic training and performance.

A key part of Becca’s approach is working within the specific athlete’s lifestyle on improvements that are sustainable for the long-haul.  With that, she firmly advocates for her athletes to take ownership in the process.  Becca follows a weight-inclusive model and became a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor in 2021.  She weaves this framework into her performance nutrition consulting by helping athletes learn to identify their fueling needs and connect with food from both a fuel and pleasure perspective instead of relying on external cues like meal plans or calorie targets.  Becca appreciates the nuances of individual nutrition and isn’t afraid of playing in the grey to help clients meet their goals.  Food can be both functional AND fun, after all.
