When looking for nutrition coaching services, it is a wild world out there.
From social media influencers to celebs to got-my-nutrition-cert-in-a-day types to nutritionists who may or may not be credentialed, there’s a whole lot of nutrition wizards coming at ya from 99 different perspectives.
When shopping around, it’s important to select the education level, street cred, experience, and approach that resonates most with you. We here at the Nutrition Mechanic shop are unashamedly biased that we advocate for Registered Dietitians as one of your criterion (and you can read more about why this matters from this previous blog post).
Unfortunately, most don’t really know what they are looking for (or what they need) because of how diet culture has permeated our nutrition landscape.
For example, you may think you need to strictly count macros, count calories, go vegan or hop on the Weight Watchers train. You may think you need to weigh in daily, do prolonged fasted workouts, and take the celery juice challenge. Cuz the messages out there say so and that must be The Way.
Ah shucks, it really doesn’t have to be that way, friends.
Yeah, I know there’s a bunch of you who can follow a diet, stick to those rules, and see success (although Diet Culture has defined “success” in such a way that is unhealthful and I’m gonna call it wonkadoodle). But I also know a whole lot of you who revert to old ways when the diet stops.
For one, that diet plan really didn’t look at you as a whole person, a unique person, and one who is living the life you are living, and the life you have lived thus far.
And this is a big part of what makes us Mechanics different from the rest.
Aside from getting nitty gritty nutrition-y with you, we consider your (actual) life. That is, habits, routine, support system, household dynamic, the ‘why’ behind what you seek, and much more.
We bring open ears and compassion.
We work with you and for you.
We want you to thrive and reach your Bests, no matter what that looks like for you.
We are partners and teammates with you in this here nutrition and health gig.
Because food and nutrition is not supposed to be just an “eat this, not that” approach.
It’s more than this.
And it’s your journey to travel.
