As much as I’d love for some nutrition fine-tuning to be the Cure All for our health woes, I’d be a goofball to advocate that kind of message to you.
Yes, yes… nutrition matters and I make a profession around improving the nutrition aspect of people’s lives…but you can choose to not give a dang and that is your right.
But there are other ways to give an eye to health, wellness, and kickassery.
Enter my current 10 “S Factors”:
Sleep: Quality, duration, honoring its restorative power.
Stress: There is “healthy” stress and there is batshit-crazy stress. Whatcha got?
Strength: Literally. I know that when I’m 80 years old, I want to be able to carry my own damn groceries. How ‘bout you?
Sunlight: Not only for the vitamin D thingy (which relates to numerous aspects of health), but for circadian rhythm (which relates to numerous aspects of health!).
Steps: Daily movement aside from purposeful exercise.
Snacking: It is not evil, yet we can learn a lot about ourselves when we take a peek at what, why, when.
Screen Time: How much time are you spending daily staring at your devices and tech?
Support System: As much as some of us would like to think we can go it all alone and be content in the world without a strong support system, it ain’t so. That is not a part of our species and evolution.
Smiles: I used to cringe as a kid when an adult would command me to “SMILE!” but now as an adult, I can see and feel the immense power of smiling (and giggling) and I miss seeing friends & strangers’ smiles (even though they may be behind the mask).
Shake-it-Upness: We may have gotten into some rutty ruts DTC (due to COVID-19), but we all need some zing-zang periodically to keep our brains from turning to Swiss cheese.
What resonates with you? What other S factors would you add? :)
