“Though you may hear me holler,
And you may see me cry--
I'll be dogged, sweet baby,
If you gonna see me die.”—Langston Hughes
As we’re all settling into our new year and still navigating pandemic life (oh, and all of the other hardships we may have), I’m giving you permission to take a big ol’ deep breath, or twelve of those, and chill out with me for a min.
From over here on the nutrition and health front, I’m seeing a lot of B.O.
And nope, I’m not talking about Body Odor here, I’m talkin’ Burn Out.
It’s as if the collective baseline went from “getting through each day in okay-ness style” to more frequent out loud WTFs and “I’m just gonna pour another glass of vino ‘cuz SH$T ain’t gonna change for a while”.
[Breathe]
No matter where you are in your health journey, active and athletic pursuits (or lack thereof), or on the spectrum of surviving and enduring PandemicWorld, you can pick up when you’re ready.
While I could argue that everyone should always be working on health, ‘cuz you only have one life to live and all that jazz, it ignores the reality of your own situation. And I don’t need to Should on you.
The one thing I will suggest here is to step back from the Daily Bog if you are indeed feeling stuck. If you can get really real with yourself, ask:
“What are the beliefs I have right now about my situation?”
”How do I feel on a daily basis: physically, emotionally, mentally?”
”Where or how am I limiting myself in what I want for the long term?”
“What are the stories I’m telling myself right now?”
Genuine self-reflection is not easy by any means.
However, we all benefit by making pit stops along our life path to check in, see what we are seeing and feeling. This reflection time can then be impetus for adjusting our current course instead of remaining in a permanent stall out at the stop sign.
No matter what, remember there is no shame in asking for help and reaching out to your support system. If you’re feeling like the B.O. level is at the maximum fill line in your health and food life, the Mechanics are here to help ya out too.
